VPK intents to invest 50 mio € (EN+FR)

Oudegem Papier has decided to invest in the rebuild of its Papermachine 7 and the modernization of the energy-generation to secure the future of its papermill in Oudegem.

The three major goals of this project are : 

• an important improvement of the product quality to belong to the best of class, 
• reduce the energy consumption and the environmental emissions per Tonne of paper, 
• the increase of the productivity of the papermill.

Through this rebuild we will be able to produce lighter paperqualities and improve physical properties by using a two-layer gapformer. The specific energy consumption will be reduced by installing a filmpress and the CO2-emissions will decrease by incinerating the recycling residu’s in a co-generation plant.

These investments will increase production capacity to 450.000 T and will improve the runnability of the machines at Oudegem Papier.

The rebuild is planned for September and October 2007, with start-up in November 2007.

On the other hand the management of Rigid Paper Ltd, an English subsidiary of VPK Packaging Group, is holding a consultation with trade union representatives to examine and investigate all options for the future of this mill.

Rigid Paper Ltd, located in Selby (North Yorkshire) manufactures paper for packaging. In the 2005 financial year, the output of Rigid Paper Ltd came to 70,000 tonnes and the firm’s turnover was GBP 15.4 million. Rigid Paper Ltd employs 86 people, of whom 25 are administrative staff. Rigid Paper Ltd is suffering from the unfavourable conditions affecting the entire paper industry due to the unprecedented increase in costs, primarily of energy.

The corrugated division of Rigid, located in Selby and Desborough, and Charta are not affected by this procedure.

VPK is a vertical integrated company specialised in the production of tailor made packaging solutions. VPK Packaging Group projette d’investir 50 millions d’euros pour moderniser son usine à papier d’Oudegem.

Oudegem Papier a l’intention d’investir dans la rénovation de sa machine à papier 7 et de moderniser la production d’énergie, afin d’assurer l’avenir de sa papeterie à Oudegem.

Ce projet poursuit trois objectifs importants : 

• Améliorer sensiblement la qualité du produit et atteindre ainsi un niveau d’excellence,
• Réduire la consommation d’énergie et les émissions dans l’environnement par tonne de papier,
• Augmenter la productivité de la production de papier.

Ces investissements nous permettront de produire des qualités de papier plus légères et améliorer les caractéristiques physiques à l’aide d’un « Gapformer » double couche. L’installation d’un presse-film permettra de réduire la consommation d’énergie, tandis que les émissions de CO2 se verront diminuées via l’incinération des résidus de recyclage dans une centrale de cogénération.

Grâce à ce projet la capacité de production s’élèvera à 450.000 tonnes et la productivité des machines améliorera fortement.

Les travaux sont prévus pour les mois de septembre et octobre 2007 , la mise en service aura lieu en novembre 2007.

D’autre part la direction de Rigid Paper Ltd, une filiale anglaise de VPK Packaging Group, organise une consultation avec les représentants syndicaux. Pendant une période clairement définie, les partenaires sociaux examineront toutes les options pour l’avenir de Rigid Paper Ltd.

Rigid Paper Ltd emploie 86 personnes, dont 25 collaborateurs administratifs. Rigid Paper Ltd souffre de la conjoncture défavorable qui frappe le secteur du papier à cause d’une augmentation des coûts énergétiques sans précédent au Royaume-Uni.

La division de carton ondulé de Rigid, situé à Selby et Desborough n’est pas affectée par cette procédure.
