Carbon foot print reduces again
A joint venture was created with Origis to build a 1.8 megawatt solar power station on the roofs of the corrugated board factory in Aalst and the core winding plant in Deerlijk.
The power plant, which will be operational by December 2009, will produce so called green electricity. The generated electricity will be used locally in the plant replacing externally purchased electricity.
The investment should generate a yearly saving of our electricity costs of at least 150.000 € during the next 20 years.
This equipment will reduce our greenhouse gas emission and thus also the carbon foot print of VPK Packaging Group.
Earlier investments like the biogas generator and the combustion of recycling residues in Oudegem had the same positive effect on the environment.
Similar projects will be initiated within the group shortly.
