Saint-Sixtus Abbey: home of  Westvleteren Trappist beer

The much-loved Westvleteren 12 Trappist beer is traditionally brewed by monks - and packed in VPK corrugated boxes!

The new corrugated cardboard box was developed to meet several requirements. Six breakable bottles of Westvleteren 12 had to be packaged in a handy way that was easy for the end customer to carry. These end customers often come from far to knock on the door of the Saint Sixtus Abbey – where the beer is brewed in the traditional way – and so the packaging must be strong enough to withstand a long journey. And all of this without compromising on compactness and brand identity.

Corrugated cardboard boxes: a fitting solution

VPK’s R&D Department came up with a strong carrier box with an ingenious handle. Its special shape provides optimum strength. On the inside of the packaging, corrugated cardboard inserts are used to hold the bottles neatly in their place, while at the same time guaranteeing extra protection. What’s more, the boxes are easy to stack on a pallet. Razor-sharp four-colour Masterflex printing does full justice to the brand’s unique character.
